This is the place where I moan and groan about stuff I dislike and wish I could change.
Smoking | The addictive nicotine in cigarettes produces a chemical stimulant in the brain causing a craving for more. It also pollutes the air for non-smokers causing damage to people who do not smoke. It is the damage to innocent people, which I dislike the most. If people want to kill themselves with tobacco products that's fine by me but they shouldn't affect others with their drug. ASH |
Pollution | Pollution gives us global warming, engine fumes, litter and sewage. I would like to promote recycling, carbon taxes and population inhibitors to limit this blight on our world. |
Drugs | Drugs are substances which affect the human brain causing the person who takes them to not act in the way which they would not normally, and so, inhumanly I cannot understand why anyone would give up the ability to think for themselves, but again these substances include a chemical which induces a craving for more. |
Microsoft | I do accept that Microsoft has been a great success at developing an operating system for the world but I wish that it just developed the core software and let other people develop from that core by publishing its code in a documented way to enable real development. |
Political Correctness | This has got completely out of control in this country, what you can and can't say to stop offending minorities has stifled debate leaving politics and democracy in ruins. |
Exploitation | I dislike the exploitation of people all over the world for the gain of a few individuals. It is not right but it seems to be legal. This is not a good state of affairs. |
War | Ok I know that if nations had not stood up to tyranny in the past I would not have the freedom to write what I wish. I want to say that war seems to be necessary but I don't like it. |
Population Growth | In the past the level of population was kept under control by famine, disease and infection. The number of births equalled the number of deaths and human impact on the world was not terminal. Today population is out of control, hospitals and organisations remove the limiting factors on humans and many more people who would not have survived in the past go on to live and produce offspring. This has caused a population explosion, which threatens the planet and human civilisation. I guess that we are the victims of our own success. |
Taxes | I do not agree with some of the things my tax money is spent on. They say in life two things are certain, death and taxes. If I were in charge I would increase taxes on fuel and reduce taxes on wages, but who would want me in charge? |
The Armed Forces | I think that governments who pay people (the army) to be ready to kill anyone who oppose their views cannot be right. The soldiers use right of strength to impose their will on the people. Human Nature means we have to have these forces to oppose the tyrants and dictators abroad but I think that now they have become a part of the way of life in all parts of the world and I think that is a bad thing. |
Cold Calling | If I want to buy something I will ask for it. The number of phone calls and house visits I get from companies who want me to pay them for something I don't want is terrible. Needless to say I hang up on them and turn them away when they call. |
Theives | There are a small number of people who take things they have not earned, don't pay for services they have agreed to pay for. These people make society form police forces, courts, prisons and judges. We would all be so much better off if they respected their agreements and didn't take things, which other people have worked hard for. |
Modern Buildings | Those high rise blocks of flats made of concrete, uninspired boxes of buildings. |
Monarchy | I think kings and absolute rulers are a thing of a barbaric past and no longer have a role in modern society. I implore the royals to abdicate and disband. I know that many would argue that they have a positive input to our country but I will always argue that the hereditary transfer of power is no basis for a democratic society and as such all their traditions have no bearing to normal peoples lives. The fact is that working people support their decadence and splendour while we still have poverty in our country riles against common sense. |
Speed Ramps | I really dislike these things, sometimes called sleeping policemen. I understand that cars exceed the speed limit on occasion but to make us all suffer by jarring us up and down and rattling our cars to pieces just doesn't seem fair. I am in favour of speed cameras though and I feel that these should be deployed in the areas where speed ramps are currently used. |
National Debt | It seems that a lot of people do not know that this government and previous governments have borrowed money on our behalf, not a bad thing you may think until you understand just how much money is owed. Currently the National Debt stands at about 460 thousand million pounds,[2005] that is over £7,000 pounds for every man, woman and child in this country. Interest repayments on this debt constitute about 5% of our taxes. Which equalled over 24 billion pounds last year (about a third of what we as a nation spend on the NHS). If you consider that less than 29 million people actually work to pay off this debt. You can see that the debt stands at nearly £16,000 for each working person |
Tolls | Toll Bridges, Toll Roads I just can't abide them. We Pay a Road Tax each Year and we pay a tax on fuel but some roads cost a lot of money so the powers that be consider we should pay a premium to use these roads and bridges. I have a major problem we that. You see the people who collect these tolls have to be paid and the toll booths that is an extra cost too but if it was all paid for by a small increase in fuel tax we would all be able to get around a lot easier. Also slowing down and speeding up around a toll area costs in fuel use, for no gain. I think tolls on public roads should be abolished |
